NFF releases statement, condoles Stephen Keshi over wife’s death

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has released a statement, condoling with former coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, who has lost his wife, Kate to cancer.

According to reports, Kate died on Wednesday night in the US, after a brief illness.

NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, spoke with Keshi over the phone and sympathized with the former national team skipper.

“This is devastating. To lose a spouse is the equivalent of a tragedy. I pray that Almighty God will give you and the children the fortitude to bear this huge loss,” Pinnick told Keshi over the phone.

He also hailed Keshi as a Nigerian hero and prayed that God will give him strength to bear the demise. 

“Keshi is a Nigerian hero and we mourn deeply with him at this time. This has come like a big blow, but we pray that he receives divine strength to cope with the situation, and we also pray that the Almighty God will grant the departed eternal rest,” Pinnick added.

The COZA Saga: Church Loses Large Number Of Members | Church Divided [Photos]

Smite the shepherd and the sheep will flee". This biblical injunction vividly captures the ongoing scenario at the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA.

The name COZA became a 'street anthem' a few months back following a shocking confession by one Ese Walter, an ex-member of the church of her week-long sexual escapade with the senior pastor of the church, Abiodun Fatoyinbo.

However, since then, the pastor has neither come out to refute nor accept the allegation, but claimed that he was still waiting for God's order.

While many still doubt the authenticity of the allegations, some light-hearted members of COZA are gradually leaving the church. Dailypost learnt this during a recent visit to the Lagos branch of the church, situated in Maryland, Ikeja.

Findings reveal that many aggrieved members and deacons have left the church since the authority of the church decided to sweep the matter under the carpet.

When our correspondent inquired from a member why the church looked so empty on a Sunday, he was told the population of the church was reducing drastically on weekly bases.

"I think this started not quiet long. Last week was even the worst; you could see empty seats everywhere," the fair complexioned female member said.

Asked if the man of God had come out to deny or admit the allegation, the member said they've warned them never to talk about it anywhere, until he (Pastor Abiodun) hears from God.

"I think this is one of the reasons many members are leaving. The church authority had warned us never to talk about the issue until the man of God speaks, and I think many are beginning to find it hard to believe."

His members had since called on the pastor to come clean on the adultery allegations, but he prefers to remain silent until God says otherwise.

Sources revealed that the church stands divided because of the incident. While many insisted that the pastor should speak out, others are of the opinion that since God asked him to keep quiet, he should wait until he says otherwise.

A member was quoted as saying, "God can't ask you to keep quiet in this matter because his name is at stake too. The church of God is being accused here and the same God is telling him to keep quiet? That is immaterial, I can't accept that."

Findings further revealed that the preacher is currently working behind the scene to 'bury' the allegation.

The preacher has vowed to put an end to the ugly development that has soiled his hard-earned name and reputation.

We were also told that the man of God is making effort to reach out to the media to clear the mess and get the whole issue out of the public domain.

It was gathered that members of the church are also calling on Pastor Biodun to tender unreserved apology if he actually committed the sin or come out boldly to clear the air, rather than 'waiting for God to tell him when to speak'.

New Factional PDP Elects National Working Committee

As the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party continues to deepen by the day, a faction that emerged on the day the party held its special national convention, has announced a National Working Committee, NWC.

A statement on Monday signed by the faction’s National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, noted that the stakeholders of the party across the country at a meeting in Abuja, ratified the election of members of the parallel NWC.

The officials are; Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, (Chairman); Dr Sam Sam Jaja, (Deputy National Chairman); Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, (National Secretary); Hon. Maode Umar Hiliya (Deputy National Secretary).

Others are Mr. Timi Frank (National Youth Leader); Hon Binta Koje, National Women Leader; Mallam Nasir Issa (National Organising Secretary); Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze (National Publicity Secretary); Hon. Wadada (National Financial Secretary); Mallam Tanko Isiaku Gomna (National treasurer).

The statement added that “the positions of National Auditor and that of National Legal Adviser which are zoned to the South East and South West respectfully will be announced soon.”

The latest development contradicts the comments by the President, Goodluck Jonathan who, on Sunday at the party post-convention dinner, promised that the crisis rocking the PDP would be resolved soon.

On Ondo Governorship Polls: Supreme Court Strikes out ACN from Appeals

The Supreme Court in Abuja, at its hearing of appeals on the October 20, 2012 governorship election in Ondo State this morning, struck out the name of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) from the case on the ground that the party is no more in existence.

ACN, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Political Change (CPC) and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) recently merged to form a new party called All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following this, Lawyers representing Governor Olusegun Mimiko and Labour Party (LP), Chief Wole Olanipekun and Yufus Alli (SANs) respectively urged the court to strike out ACN’s name from the appeals since no party at the moment bears such name, saying that "ACN as a political party was dead".

However, Wole Aina (SAN), who was the leading counsel to the defunct ACN candidate. Rotimi keredolu (SAN) at the court responded that the matter of the death of APC was a matter of evidence, insisting that the CAN still existS. 

Yufus Alli particularly said the death of ACN was a notorious fact, saying the judges should as a matter of urgency take judicial steps to address the issue.

But Aina, who applied orally for a change of ACN name to APC, was immediately tackled by Olanipekun who said the application lacked merit and that even it has any merit it ought to have been made by the APC or its counsel not Aina, who is a counsel to a candidate.

Mimiko’s lawyer then said said "could APC have sponsored a candidate in 2012 when it was not in existence"?

In his ruling shortly after a recess, Justice Waltal Umoughen said the Apex Court has no competence to grant the application of Akeredolu’s Counsel, stressing that ACN name was hereby struck out from the case.

Akeredolu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olusola Oke are both challenging the victory of governor Olusegun Mimiko in the last governorship election in the state.

Their evidences relied on the fact that the 2012 voters register used for the poll was loaded with illegal names which was confirmed by the Appeal Court, but ruled on the ground that the evidence was not substantial enough to nullify the poll.

Lagos State Govt. re-opens Ex-Gov Orji Uzor Kalu’s Ikoyi Mansion, Gives him 14 days to pay Land Use charge debt

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday explained why it shut a building belonging to a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu. 

The state said Kalu defaulted in the payment of his Land Use Charge, an annual fee paid by all landlords for their property in Lagos State.

The house is located in Park View, Ikoyi, a highbrow area of the state.

A statement by the state government said that contrary to the political undertones read into the sealing of the property, Kalu had failed to pay the fees despite the three notices served him.

The development comes a week after Kalu criticized the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, for deporting some indigenes of Anambra state.

But the government stated that following the intervention of Governor Babatunde Fashola, the house has been re-opened with a warning that Kalu pays the charge within fourteen days of grace.

The statement reads: 

"The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a misleading claim by a businessman, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu that his Ikoyi home has been sealed off following a threat to sue the Lagos State Government over an unrelated matter.

"We wish to state, for the avoidance of doubt, that nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu’s property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi was distrained pursuant to Section 40 of the Revenue Administration Law of Lagos State for failure to pay the statutory annual land use charge despite three separate notices delivered to the said property.

"As a government driven by law and process, the Lagos State Government will ordinarily expect all law abiding residents to discharge their responsibilities to the state.

"If, in spite of failing to do so, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu wants to give ethnic colouration to a routine performance of its duties by an agency of the state government, which in this case is the Land Use Charge Office, under the Ministry of Finance, he is welcome to do so.

"However it should be noted that when the issue was brought to the attention of the Governor, Tuesday evening, he directed the agency to unseal the property and that an additional 14 days grace period be given to Mr. Kalu to pay the said charge.

"It should be emphasised that notices like these are served on defaulting property owners on a regular basis who either comply or contact the Agency to raise any objections they might have to such notice. Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, like every other citizen, must fulfil his obligation to the State," it said.

Driver Rapes his two daughters for over two years (Photo)

 

Operatives attached to the Ikotun Police Station in Lagos state have apprehended a 35-year-old man, Adewale Adeleke, who has been accused of defiling his two daughters (10 and 12 years old) since the past two years.

According to information gathered by DailyPost, the two daughters (names withheld), who were in tears, confessed that their father had been sleeping with them since 2011 without the knowledge of their mother who left them since last year.

It was learnt that the incident occurred in Ikotun, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.

The oldest of the two daughters confirmed to our correspondent that the barbaric act has been going on since she was 11 and when her younger sister was eight years old, and that it was her father who deflowered her.

In her words, "Our father sleeps with us frequently. The first time he slept with me, I saw blood coming out of my private part and he used his singlet to clean me up."

DailyPost also gathered that Adeleke was exposed by the Vice Chairman, Freelance Broadcast Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Demola Olota, Mrs Esther Ogwu of the Esther Child Rights Foundation and Mrs Mary Olasupo of the Compassionate Women and handed him over to the police. 

It was gathered that the culprit allegedly admitted that he had been defiling his daughters since 2011 and that he should be forgiven. He was quoted as saying that the devil pushed him to have sex with them and that whenever he is arouse sexually, he goes for his daughters.

Mother of the children, Kemi Adeleke, who left her husband last year to Ibadan, Oyo State was devastated when the news that her estranged husband had been sleeping with their children got to her. She said she could not eat for two days. Kemi said she left her husband because he was an irresponsible man.

She said she is the one that feeds the family and even on top of that, she gets seriously beaten up by her husband.

According to her, when she left for Ibadan, she left the children with her mother but her husband went there to return them to the house.

Executive Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, said the man was wicked for defiling his two girls for two years, saying that her foundation would ensure that justice is done in the matter.

She stated that when she interviewed Adeleke at the police station, he admitted to the act, adding that the foundation was trying to see if the children’s mother could take custody of the children when she arrives from Ibadan.

Lagos State Police Command, Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ngozi Braide confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying that he would be arraigned in court soon.

Meanwhile, the two girls are now under police protection, while their father will be arraigned at the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court by the police.
