Ekiti State University, EKSU,
Ado-Ekiti, has expelled five students for allegedly raping a female student.
The institution’s Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Ajibade Olubunmi, said in a statement yesterday [Mar. 17] that the
students, who were arrested on March 7 through efforts of the university
security men and youths of Iworoko- Ekiti, a neighbouring town, had been taken
to court.
Olubunmi said their expulsion was
sequel to the report of the University Disciplinary Committee headed by
Professor W. O. Adebayo that tried them.
The spokesman, who said this had
underscored the need for parents to monitor their children closely, reiterated the
determination of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oladipo Aina, to flush out bad eggs
among the students and staff.
In another development, the
vice-chancellor has called on the students of the institution to always
maintain high academic standards and moral probity.
Aina spoke separately during the
matriculation ceremonies of students of EKSU studying under an affiliate
programmes with Ogunsaya College of Education, Otto/Ijanikin, Lagos and Michael
Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija, Epe, Lagos.
He warned that under no circumstance
should any of the students be involved in examination malpractice, cultism,
drug abuse and other anti-social behaviour that could jeopardise their
studentship in the university.
