Facebook Love: Girl Commits Suicide After Fiancee Married Her Best Friend

Disillusioned and uncertain, a 30-year-old graduate of Micro-biology from the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, has allegedly committed suicide after hearing that her finacee, who she met on Facebook, had gotten married to her best friend.

Reports said the lady, identified as Nkechi (surname withheld), hailed from Onitsha, Anambra State and settled in Asaba with her parents after graduation while searching for employment. Nkechi then got involved in Facebook-ing at the centre where she was being tutored in computer appreciation. This was how she met  the young man, who disguised himself  as a ‘cripple’, but was actually a lawyer who trained in the United Kingdom.

We reliably gathered that after series of chats, the said cripple asked for her hand in marriage. After their long relationship on-line, which lasted about seven months, the young man, who was identified as Henry (surname withheld), returned to Nigeria on a wheelchair. Nkechi, accompanied by her friend, went to the airport to welcome him, but was shocked to see him on a wheelchair and when he begged her to marry him, she refused.

According to reports, feeling disappointed, Nkechi continued to refuse his proposal, despite his pleas and a visit to her house. She did not listen to that of her friend, either. Her friend, identified as Onyinye, a fashion boutique owner, living somewhere around Infant Jesus area of Asaba, was shocked at her friend’s decision after pleading with her to reconsider her decision, but Nkechi refused.

This, reports said, endeared Onyinye to Henry.Issues took a different turn when Henry went ahead to finalise wedding plans with Onyinye. They had the traditional marriage and white wedding last weekend in Asaba, but at the reception, Henry got off his wheelchair to the amazement of all and informed everyone that he was never a ‘cripple,’ but had to disguise himself because he was hoping to get married to a Nigerian lady who would love him, even if he was a cripple.When the news got to Nkechi, she was reported to have committed suicide.

Confirming the news, the Police Spokesman in the State, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, disclosed that the incident occurred on Thursday night when the girl returned home and complaining of having a minor headache, turned in. According to Uyabeme, while in her room, she may have taken some drugs and dropped a note by her bed side.

Uyabeme said the note read: “I have gone to rest as I cannot stand the situation after the house I built has collapsed.” “This is a lesson for single ladies; never reject any suitor, so that you don’t end up dead,” Uyabeme said.

He also added that her corpse has since been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre. We gathered that the parents were fined by elders of the quarters, who considered it a sacrilege for a suicide to be committed in the area.

Domestic Violence: Man Kills Wife, Attempts Suicide (Photo)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Daniel Kanjo, for allegedly killing his 24-year-old wife, Meno Kanjo, in Elemoro, Ajah area of the state.

According to police investigations, Daniel stabbed his wife to death after catching her making love to another man in a bush near their home.

According to a police source at Elemoro Divison, after stabbing his wife many times, the suspect also stabbed himself in the stomach and in the neck.

The suspect and the wife were thought to be dead,  forcing the residents to call the police to evacuate the corpses

As policemen were packing the corpses to the mortuary, Daniel was, however, discovered to be breathing and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

The suspect, who had been discharged, told PUNCH Metro that the incident was the work of the devil.

He said he loved his wife dearly and never hit her prior to the incident, adding that when he caught her red-handed committing adultery, he lost control.

He said, “I am from Benin Republic but I have been living in Nigeria since 2001. I have two wives. My first wife has six children for me. However in 2010, I got married to Meno (the deceased) and we have a one-year-old child together.

“I am a bricklayer by vocation and I have never denied Meno of anything, even though she was a hairdresser and was making money. I was also faithful to her and showed her love.”

Narrating what transpired on the fateful day, the suspect said he came back from work in the afternoon and needed to collect something from the deceased.

He said as he was looking for her in the house, he was drawn by sounds emanating from a nearby bush.

He said, “When I heard the sound coming from the bush, I moved near and saw my wife having sex with a strange man. As I moved closer, the man saw me and ran away. But I was able to grab my wife and I gave her the beating of her life.

“I did not know what came over me, but I took a knife and stabbed her all over her body. Before I realised what happened, the devil also pushed me to stab myself. I stabbed myself in the stomach and also slit my throat.”

Daniel said some of his neighbours, who were drawn by the noise, started beating him up when they saw his wife on the ground.

He said, “After stabbing myself, I was still moving on the floor although I was weak. Some people came around and started beating me, saying that I must die too since I had killed my wife. They beat me up and took photographs. When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital.”

The suspect urged the police to release him as he was not himself when he was committing the crime. He said if he was sent to prison, his children would suffer.

He said, “My first born is 13 years old while my youngest child is a year old. I pay their school fees and I am responsible for their upkeep. If I am sent to prison, they will all suffer.”

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Damasus Ozoani, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Bollywood Actress Commits Suicide

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, who made her debut starring opposite acting legend Amitabh Bachchan, died in an apparent suicide at her home in the Indian city of Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Khan, who grew up in London before moving to India for a career in Bollywood, was found dead in her home by her family, an officer said. Police were interviewing her neighbours, the officer said, adding that no suicide note was found.

“We suspect she hung herself at her home” late on Monday, a police official told AFP, saying that her body has been sent for a post mortem.Khan, who was born in New York before moving to London and then Mumbai, made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with the controversial film “Nishabd” (No words), playing the role of a teenager in love with her best friend’s much older father, played by Bachchan.
