‘I am a lawyer, but I buy stolen vehicles from armed robbers’ - Babatunde...

 

Seeing a lawyer, Mr. Babatunde (surname withheld), one would believe that he is a complete gentleman. His pedigree, normally, should speak so much for him, as the son of a popular but late professor who was a lecturer in one of the federal universities in the South West. But more than he was doing as a trained lawyer, Babatunde was alleged to be a strong member of a robbery syndicate which specialised in robbing their victims of their posh cars and their belongings and selling the vehicles as Tokunbo.

The syndicate is divided into two gangs – While the robbery gang goes in search of exotic vehicles and would dispossess owners of them, Babatunde allegedly gets a ready market for the vehicles and ensures that the robbery gang members are well taken care of after each operation by lodging them in hotels.

Their cups became full when they went to rob a retired Rear Admiral in his home in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria, in May, 2013. The deadly gang was said to have dealt with members of the Rear Admiral’s household, after which they dispossessed him of his Toyota Highlander 2008 model, among other things.

According to the Oyo State police commissioner, Mohammed Indabawa, while speaking with journalists at a press briefing last Monday, when the case was reported, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at Oyo/Ogbomoso axis, led by the officer in charge, DSP Olusola Aremu, began a discreet investigation resulting in the arrest of suspects including Ayomide Oyeyipo (24), Olanrewaju Ayomide a.k.a. Peter (23), Olabode Seun, Oladapo Olatide (37), Abdulmalik Abiodun Ojulari and Akeem Afolabi (30).

Others are Babatunde (37), Segun Adeyale (39), Isaac Nwose (42) and Williams Asuwata (47).

Indabawa said that vehicles recovered from them included Toyota Highlander with registration number LND 758 AG (belonging to the Rear Admiral), Honda Accord, LND 130 AT, Honda Accord, EPE 986 BD, Toyota Corolla, LN 690 EKY, unregistered Range Rover, unregistered Honda Crosstour, unregistered Toyota Highlander, unregistered Toyota Camry, Honda Accord with registration number AP 835 ZAR, Honda Accord FDY 119 AA, Toyota Corolla LSD 120 BF, Toyota Camry AA 495 SHA and Toyota Camry FST 226 BH.

Also recovered form them were one English pistol, two locally-made cut-to-size pistols, eight laptops and 15 handsets.  

Below are their confessional statements during an interview with Saturday Tribune:

Ayomide Oyeyipo from Kwara State

I am popularly called Mayowa. I was living in Ilorin but when things were not going smoothly, I came to my friends in Ogbomoso and started working with a construction company. I left for Ilorin again but returned to Ogbomoso. I was working for a retired Colonel in the barracks in Ilorin but I used to go and play with my friends. All these happened this year. I later started living with them. One day, they told me that we should go and rob in Ogbomoso. We robbed our victims of his vehicle and took laptops, phones and some other things.

I took the English pistol that was recovered from me from the Colonel I was working for. I used to go to his office. One day, he put a nut (bullet) in the pistol and it got stuck. I called a policeman to help him and that one took it to his office to remove the stuck bullet. Instead of me returning the gun and bullet to my boss, my friends advised me to keep them. That was how I ran away from him.

The lawyer promised to pay N1.4 million for the Highlander but gave an initial N600,000. I was given N50,000. He also bought EOD from us. My gang members were Ayomide Olanrewaju, Seun, Dapson and Saheed.

We stole Highlander in Ogbomoso and took it to lawyer in Lagos. I was arrested at Ojoo area of Ibadan.

Saheed Adesina

My two friends, Mayowa, Seun and I  stole one Toyota Camry (Muscle) at Under-G area of Ogbomoso. I was called from my girlfriend’s house and they had two guns belonging to Mayowa and Dapson.

Akeem Afolabi

I was called by my friend, Abiodun, one morning and he asked if I could drive. He said he wanted us to go and snatch a vehicle. We saw two women at Tanke area of Ilorin and snatched a Toyota Camry (muscle) from them. Abiodun was the owner of the gun we used. We went to Ogbomoso after calling the buyer, Dapson, unknown to us that he was with SARS. That was how we were arrested.

Isaac Nwose from Kwale, Delta State

I am a driver to the lawyer. Whenever the boys came, lawyer would tell me to lodge in a hotel and ask me to take the vehicle to his father-in-law’s house. I have driven five for him. I didn’t know the vehicles were stolen ones until April this year. I told my brother and he said we should go to the police station after I must have concluded my traditional marriage.

I was in my hometown for the ceremony when my boss called me that he wanted to see me. I was arrested by the police when I came. All I have realised from my boss is N350,000.

Williams Asuwata from Cross River State

I have auto shop at Number 3, Oso Street, Opebi, Ikeja. No, I don’t deal in stolen vehicles. It was Segun that brought me in contact with the lawyer. Segun was a car dealer but he does not have a shop. Since I started my car shop two years ago, I have been seeing him in different car shops. They are many like that. When they bring customers to buy cars, you give them commission.

Last month, Segun told me that lawyer brought in vehicles he wanted to clear. He brought an unregistered Highlander to me one evening. They said they would sell for N4 million but I said I would pay N3.5 million. I gave him initial N500,000 and he issued me a receipt. The following morning, I transferred the balance of N3 million into his account. He gave me the spare key, the Customs papers and issued me a second receipt

Olajide Oladapo a.k.a. Dapson

I am from Ogbomoso. I repair computers. I was a member of a robbery gang. I also drove a snatched car to Lagos State. I did  it because I needed money. I was given N50,000. I also joined in snatching a Toyota Venza. I had a gun given to me by First Born and I gave it to Mayowa. First born is already serving a jail term in Oyo prisons. We took the vehicles to Tunde, the lawyer, in Lagos.

About seven laptops that were taken from our victims were also sold to me, which I in turn sold to others to make money.

Abdulmalik Abiodun Ojulari

I am one of the armed robbery gang members. We were five in number. Others are Peter, Mayowa, Dapson, Akeem amd I. I was with them when they snatched Toyota Venza and Toyota Camry. We snatched the latter from a woman in Ilorin and wanted to sell it to Dapson, unknown to us that he was already with Oyo SARS. He told us to wait for him somewhere and that was where we were arrested.

Seun Olabode, a casual staff member of PHCN

I belong to a gang comprising Dapson, Mayowa and Peter. I have snatched two vehicles with them. I don’t have a gun. It is only Mayowa and Dapson who have guns. I was given N50,000 after the operation where we stole the Highlander. I also joined them to snatch a Toyota Camry (Muscle) in Osogbo. I joind them about three months ago.

Segun Adeyale (39) from Edidi, Kwara State

I was a car dealer  but my business nose-dived when Fashola’s government drove us from where were staying by the riverside.

The lawyer Tunde called me one day and told me that he had one Highlander that he wanted to sell. I asked for the year of manufacture and he said 2008. I asked for the features and price. He told me. I asked if I could see it. He brought the Highlander and he told it belonged to his friend who came from the United States and was owing him some money. He said the friend asked him to sell and deduct his debt from it. I called Mr Williams whom I knew as a dealer and he bought the vehicle for N3.5 million. Mr Williams gave him N500,000 cash and paid n3 million into his account.

Babatunde (37)

I am a lawyer by profession. I studied at the ... University and finished in 2004. I am from Ekiti State. I don’t have a chamber but squat around any time I had a job to do. I am married with two kids. My wife works in a bank.

I was arrested in connection with robbery and recovery of stolen vehicles. It is true I am involved. I buy vehicles from armed robbers and I know that is what they do. I usually get the vehicles from Mayowa. I knew him through one Lekan. Lekan called me that someone gave him my number. I bought the Toyota Highlander snatched from Ogbomoso for N1.5 million but the market value is between N4 million and N4.2 million. I sold it to an automobile dealer, one Mr Williams for N3.5 million.

The vehicle was brought to me by Peter and Mayowa.Mayowa and one other guy also brought one Honda Accord (End of Discussion). I paid N550,000 for it. There was also another Toyota Venza brought by Dapson. The market value is N4 million but I paid them N1.5 million. I gave one blue EOD to a friend of mine in Abuja. I was owing him some money. I sold a green EOD to a colleague of mine for N1.4 million but I bought it for N550,000.

I started the ‘business’ in February this year. I am full of regrets, please don’t bring my family into this.

The police commissioner however called on members of the public who might have lost vehicles of the brands listed to visit Oyo State Police Command with proofs of ownership. He added that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

I Killed 23 People in 2 Days - Captured Boko Haram Member

A member of the Boko Haram sect, who was arrested in Maiduguri, Borno State, shocked the people of Ngomari ward “Bakin Borehole” in Maiduguri, when he confessed to killing 23 people in two days, including slaughtering a village head and police officers in the area.

The member, who was arrested on Tuesday evening, was said to have relocated about a year ago and rented a one-room apartment, living as an innocent citizen in search of safe haven in the state capital.

A resident of Ngomari, who pleaded anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday that the sect member was arrested wearing a Jeans trouser and a vest when he went out to fetch water.

According to the resident, the sect member was arrested by “Civilian JTF,” adding that his arrest was made possible when the vigilance youth arrested his younger brother who, in turn, took them to Ngomari, where his brother was living.

“We were shocked when we heard that Civilian JTF came and arrested a sect member in our area.

“We have never imagined we could have somebody like that in our area, because we have been living peacefully.

“We were the most shocked when the sect member confessed that he killed 23 people in two days. That is horrible and unimaginable, but a reality,” he said.  

Meanwhile, the “Civilian JTF” was seen on Wednesday in front of the house of one of the politicians in Maiduguri at about 7.15 a.m, barely 24 hours after it was reported that the youth group went hunting for the politician for allegedly sponsoring terrorism in the state.

In another development, some members of the dreaded sect have promised the presidential committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges in the North to collaborate with the government to put an end to the continued bloodletting.

During a visit of the presidential committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges in the North to a detention site in Maiduguri, on Tuesday, over 50 detained members of the sect said if they were given a chance, they would assist authorities to end the crisis.

One of the detainees, Adam Konto, introduced himself to the chairman of the committee, Kabir Taminu Turaki, as the commander of the Bayan quarter, adding that they were ready not to pick up arms against the nation again.

"Most of us were brainwashed and recruited into the sect and given dastardly acts to do without our full understanding of what we were doing," he said.

Another detainee, who identified himself as Babagana Saje, while also expressing his readiness to denounce the sect, said the police should be commended for keeping them alive.

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians. 9:7).

Whenever God asks you to give Him something you cherish dearly as a seed, be prepared to do it. Someone may unwisely want to hold on to that thing and struggle with whether or not to give it. But think about it; can anyone out-give God? He only asks you to give so you can by so doing, launch yourself into the next level of your prosperity in Him.

Another reason you must always be prompt to give is that your financial seeds to God could sometimes serve as ransom for your life against evil. Proverbs 13:8 says, "The ransom of a man’s life are his riches…." You need to realize that though Satan is a defeated foe, he’s a rebel, who continuously seeks to snare God’s people. Therefore, don’t give him a foothold in your life. Sowing special seed-offerings is one sure way to silence him and obliterate every hindrance he places in your way.

Testimonies abound of people who were healed of terminal ailments after they gave a special seed-offering. That offering became the ransom for their lives! Don’t hold on tenaciously to anything God asks you to give, for the promise is to the giver. Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
You place a limit on God’s ability to provide for you when you’re reluctant to give. Don’t limit God in your mind! Quit thinking you’ll lose for being a giver, for no one is ever a fool for faith. Nothing should be too much for you to give to the Lord; be it your time, money, talent or skills. The beautiful thing is, whatever you give to Him in faith, He’ll multiply it back to you a hundred times over.

Dear Lord, I thank you for your grace and providence in my life. I’ll give joyfully always, without holding back, because I recognize that all I have comes from you; you’re my source, my greatness and my prosperity. I thank you for increasing your grace and capacity in me to give and be a blessing, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

She (Paris Jackson) took the comments personally, and let them eat her up, causing depression.
One source said they "destroyed" her, and there's a connection between the bullying and her recent cutting.

Jackson currently can't get on Facebook while she's in the psychiatric ward at the UCLA Medical Center (Following her attempted suicide, by cutting her wrist). Her family is worried that she'll get worse if she gets back on the social network, when she gets out.
They've tried to shut down the page but can't, because Facebook's policy is that the family of a user can't shut down an account if that user is thirteen years or older.
Her family thinks Facebook could lead to another tragedy but can't do anything about it.

DOCTORS in Chile are baffled by a woman who has started crying tears of BLOOD.

Yaritza Oliva was terrified when the strange condition appeared earlier this month.

Ever since, with no warning, the 20-year-old bleeds from her eyes several times a day.

Yaritza visited her doctor but when no evidence of an infection could be found she was sent home with eye drops to help her cope with the pain, which she says is "indescribable".

 

Her parents are now asking friends and neighbours in Purranque, Chile, to help them raise the money to send their daughter to an eye expert.

Her carpenter dad Jose appealed on a local news show: "Please put your hands over your hearts, see our situation and help my daughter."

It's possible Yaritza has a very rare condition called haemolacria, which causes sufferers to produce tears containing blood.

There are only THREE documented cases of the condition, which can be symptomatic of a more serious illness or a tumour - or caused by a high level of hormones in fertile women.

Breaking: Explosion Rocks Wet Cargo Vessel

A tanker vessel carrying imported fuel was early this morning rocked by an explosion near Atlas Cove Jetty, Lagos, on the high sea. The cause of the explosion and other details in respect of the accident are yet to be known though some sources claim they could be the handiwork of pirates while others say it was actually the Nigerian Navy that blew up the vessel suspected to be carrying adulterated fuel. However, sources said that rescue operation has since commenced at the scene of the accident. Officials of NNPC and PPMC promised to issue a press statement later in the day, giving details of what happened and the casualty level.

Breaking: Borno JTF Capture Boko Haram Leaders

The Joint Task Force (JTF), of the operational troops in the ongoing state of emergency rule in Borno and Yobe States confirmed that it has captured some notorious Boko Haram leaders as well as recovered various weapons, including rockets, and locally fabricated arms inside Sambisa forest. 

Other items seized by JTF from arrested terrorists and displayed to a-nine member Defence Headquarters Operational Assessment Team that just returned from the two states, include a large number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), making materials, laptops, mobile communication equipment, GSM phones (used for shooting and posting online videos), locally made rockets and rocket launchers. 

Also seized were vehicles of different brands and several vehicles destroyed by the terrorists, as well as their tailoring equipment, apparently used for producing fake uniforms. 

The Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, said in Abuja on Tuesday that the visit was a follow up to scheduled assessment visits to troops in the North East of the country, and has returned to brief the Chief of Defence Staff with updates on the situation in the operational area of the Special Forces operating in the North East.

Shocking Photos: Chinese Baby Born with Tail

 This is the story of little Xiao Wei born with a tail.

A DEVASTATED mum in China is begging doctors to help her seven-month-old son - who has a three-inch TAIL sticking out of his back.

Little Xiao Wei was born with spina bifida, which means his vertebrae didn't form properly.

The result is a growth that protrudes out of the back of his spine and is STILL GROWING.

Xiao's mum Chen, from Guangdong province, revealed: "We have asked the surgeons to remove the tail but they tell us it is not that simple."

Surgeon Huang Chuanping explained: “The growth is quite well developed and now measures some 10 centimetres.

"If we cut it off it will simply grow again. We need to repair the spinal canal first to stop it reoccurring."

Myelomeningocele is the most common type of spina bifida, affecting 1 in 800 babies born.

EXPOSED: Lagos Based Medical Doctor Who Kills Babies

 

Following the arrest last week, of the owner of a Lagos-based hospital, Doctor Babawale Joshua for allegedly mutilating the corpse of a 13-month-old baby boy in his hospital, (Read HERE), a 37-year- old woman identified as Cordelia Ifechukwude, has alleged that she suffered similar fate at the medical centre.

The Aniocha North, Delta-born mother of five narrated her experience at the No 1 Ajike close, branch of the medical centre, a few metres away from Amje bus-stop, Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos. According to her, 

"It happened in year 2000 when I took in with my first baby. I registered at Ayinke House, Ikeja General Hospital, but because I was advised to also register at a clinic very close to our house, I registered at Ajike hospital at Amje bus stop, Alakuko. We lived at Ajegunle bus stop, not too far from the clinic. The reason we chose Ajike Medical Centre was because my husband got acquainted with Dr Babawale Joshua, the Chief Medical Director and owner of the medical centre, and in the course of their discussion, he told my husband that he had his first degree in General Medicine and second degree in Public Health at the University of Ibadan. That might have prompted my husband to make up his mind about us registering at his clinic.

"We trusted him based on the fact that the University of Ibadan has a good record when it comes to medicine. I went for Ante-Natal at the Ayinke House, Ikeja. Around the months of February/ March, I went into labour at about 5pm. My husband was still at work then, so I went to the nearest clinic where I registered, being Ajike medical centre. When he returned around 10pm that evening, my husband rushed to the clinic and met me lying in the theatre. that was around 10 pm."

Also, on my second day at the clinic, my husband confided in me that as he was taking a walk around the premises that morning while he was waiting for the doctor to come down from his residence and attend to me, he said he saw a dead white cat, tied to an iron protector of one of the windows of the doctor’s main office, with something that looks like a blue ink sprinkled on the cat. He said he was shocked at the sight but since he did not know what it meant, he waved it off and concentrated on my safe delivery.
"By the evening of the second day, my baby’s kicks had stopped and I could hardly walk. But the nurse kept pressing my stomach and claimed they could still hear my baby’s movements. The doctor also claimed he could still hear the baby’s movement. I was later placed on a theatre table, naked.

The doctor removed my earrings and the rosary I had on my fingers. He sprinkled what he called anointing oil all over me, saying I was a witch and that I did not want to deliver the baby. At the end of the day, the second day passed and I was not delivered of the baby. By the third day, I was no longer able to urinate and my left leg was literally dead. The doctor asked my husband to bring the sum of fifty thousand Naira for a cesarean operation, that the baby was stuck in my womb. That was when it dawned on my husband that if we continued like that, he would not only lose the baby, but his wife as well. He went and chartered a commercial bus that conveyed us to Ayinke House in Ikeja.

"The doctors at Ayinke were not particularly pleased with us for taking that long to come to them. They initially refused attending to me but when we showed them our card which was a proof that we were registered with them, they took me in and carried out a scan which showed the baby had been dead for some time. The report given after examining my condition was that Dr. Babawale did a ‘bad job’.

They also said there was no need for a cesarean operation since the baby was dead but that they would have to evacuate the baby using forceps. When the baby was pulled out, the pain was so unbearable that my screams engulfed the entire two-storey building that housed the ante natal building.

The whole place was covered with a foul stench because the baby was already decaying in my womb. Thereafter, I was wheeled to the theatre for cleaning. I spent three days at the hospital before being discharged. My file should still be at Ayinke as proof of this incident.”

Comic Nigerian Actor Saka PORTS To 'Nite Of A Thousand Laughs'

 

From January through June every year, Lagos and other parts of the country usually witness a deluge of comedy shows. And then there is some quiet as everybody awaits the big masquerade to emerge in October -Opa Williams’ Nite of A Thousand Laughs.  

Preparations leading to the event usually begin from around this period (June/July) as sponsors are seen jostling for space in the premier comedy show that usually holds on October 1, in Lagos, its traditional home. And this year’s edition is a special one as the show which began in 1995, is marking its 18th anniversary on October 1. 

According to Opa Williams, "Against this backdrop, Nite of A Thousand Laughs’ edition this year will take on a different shape and size because at 18, we have attained adulthood, so we are playing on the maturity of the brand, just like the proverbial old wine, it should tastes better. We have stayed on top for 18 years as the premier comedy brand and you know staying on top is the hardest part of the game. No comedy show in Nigeria is above 13 years of age at the moment, but we have been able to sustain our dominance for 18 years. While we celebrate, we should also be mindful of the fact that people who troop out to watch our shows yearly deserve to get more value for their money every time they come out. So this year, we will ensure the audience laugh a thousand times as the brand’s name implies. If it’s a comedy show, it’s a comedy show, not a music concert, that is why we are redefining comedy show organization with this oncoming edition of Nite of A Thousand Laughs." 

Opa Williams would not go into details of the rebranded Nite of A Thousand Laughs, he however had this to say; "I want to assure you that going forward, Nite of A Thousand Laughs is not going to be about some comedians and musicians climbing the stage and entertaining people anymore. We started that trend. We later introduced dance to the menu and everybody followed suit. We are introducing something unique this year that will make the audience truly laugh a thousand times, but we are keeping that under the hat for now. So if you allow yourself to be told about it, too bad,” Opa Williams said, revealing however, that reigning comedy actor, Afiz Aiyetoro, popularly called ‘Saka’ will feature in the October 1 edition. In a bid to discourage ticket sales at the venue, Williams said tickets will be on sale on http://www.ariiyatickets.com, a month prior to the event as well as at other designated spots that would be announced later.

The crisis rocking the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) took a fresh dimension at an Abuja High Court yesterday when two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), Chief Tayo Oyetibo and Paul Erokoro tussled over who holds the brief of the factional chairman of the forum and Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang.
Also another SAN, Chief Awa Kalu tussled over the brief of the trustees of the forum with a junior lawyer, F.N. Nwosu.
The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) had sued Jang and three others at an Abuja High Court claiming that he (Jang) could not claim to be the chairman of the forum after the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi was re-elected as chairman of NGF on Friday, May 24, 2013.
But Jang, in a preliminary objection filed last Friday by Oyetibo on his behalf, asked the Court to dismiss the suit on the grounds that Fashola lacked the locus standi to institute the action.
When the matter came up yesterday, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) leading Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) announced appearance for Fashola.
But confusion started when it was the turn of the defendants to enter appearances, as Oyetibo and Erokoro both made separate appearance for Jang (1st defendant) and Osaro Onaiwu (3rd defendant), while Kalu and Nwosu made separate appearances for Asishana Bayo Okauru and the Registered Trustees of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum as 2nd and 4th defendants respectively.
Consequently, the feuding lawyers prayed the court for a stand down to enable them resolve their differences, but Osinbajo opposed a stand down and rather urged the court to strike out the preliminary objection by Jang’s lawyers.
The plaintiff’s lawyer argued that what transpired was an abuse of court process and the only way the court could handle the matter was to strike out the preliminary objection.
In his ruling, Justice Peter Affen held that it had not reached the stage of striking out the suit and added that he would not grant a stand down.
The case has been adjourned to July 3.

Three Gay Teenagers Caught in Northern Nigerian State, Kaduna

 

According to the Leadership newspaper, three teenagers between the ages of 8 and 10, have been caught in the Badarawa area of Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, for their indulgence in gay activities. The young offenders were nabbed when the mother of the 8-year-old boy became curious when she discovered that her child was  always seen with twenty naira note almost each passing day, which she said was not given to him by either parents. After series of persuasion, the mother said her son opened up hat some boys use to give him twenty naira and they normally use nail to pierce his anus and that he use to feel pains but they will always threaten to kill him if he ever tells any one. The boy further described to the mother that the two older boys use to climb him from the back after he is made to pull down  his trousers, then he will feel a sharp pain in his anus, after which they will show him a nail.

Na wa! Evil at its peak...

But wait o, these kids are not even teens yet! These are adolescents! God help this country. 

Breaking: Bisi Akande Appointed APC National Chairman

Former governor of Osun State from 1999 - 2003 Chief Bisi Akande, has been appointed the interim chairman of the new merger political party, The All Progressive Congress (APC). 

Addressing a News Conference at the end of a closed door meeting in Abuja, the former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, said the appointment is part of the requirement for the registration of the new party. He said the appointment of Chief Akande is a consensus decision among the merging parties. 

The National Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Tijani Tumsa, was appointed interim National Secretary. The meeting was held at the Lagos State governors lodge and attended by governors and chieftains of major political parties. The meeting was held behind closed doors for over three hours. The governors dismissed reports of disagreement among members of the opposition, insisting that significant progress has been made towards the realisation of the merger. 

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had directed the merging parties to put in place a national executive as part of the registration procedure.

I Have Plans For School - 2face Idibia

 

Innocent Idibia popularly known as Tuface Idibia in a recent interview talks about his music, kids and plans for his education. 

When asked if Tuface is a player, he replied: 

"If I were a player, they wouldn’t have caught me like that."

And on his role as a father, Tuface who has six kids from different women said it has not been easy, as his work which entails a lot of travelling and such, he does not see his kids as often as he wants to. He also said although he had planned to have just one wife and kids, he has accepted things the way they have turned out.

When asked if he’ll have qualms about his children following his footsteps, he simply said, 

he won’t discourage any of his children if they decide to follow in his footsteps musically. As a matter of fact, he’ll be a good adviser.

One good thing though is that Tuface definitely plans to go back to school to get a law degree but he is not certain when that will be. 

On why it took so long to settle with his wife Annie, he said,

"I don’t really have an answer to that question, because I don’t know. I can’t explain why I don’t have an answer to that, but somehow, by the grace of God, we are still together."

So, why the nickname Tuface/2Face?

According to the artiste,, it is a way of letting his fans know that his public and private lives are two separate entities. So the Tuface they see in the public, on TV, in papers, and hear on the radio is the public figure, who is different from who he really is. We can say it’s a case of Tuface(the star) and Innocent (the man).

On fame and worth?

Tuface says fame 

"takes away your privacy and freedom to do some kind of simple, basic things. Like I can’t go to Iya Christopher to sit down and eat amala, the way I dey do before". 

And on financial worth/value, he says, "I never gather, but I dey try." 

Tuface also attributed his journey so far to hard work, his fans and the grace of God.

OJB Jezreel Has 8 Weeks Left Before Surgery As COSON Moves to Support Him with Funds

 

According to OJB in an interview with Encomium magazine yesterday, Monday June 24th,  he said he has about eight weeks left to get his operation done. Excerpts from the interview ...

"When early diagnosis was done, it was just a case of renal failure. Right now, my two kidneys are gone. We are running dialysis at the moment. It started two years ago, but gradually depreciated. Most people tend to attribute kidney problem to drinking and smoking. I was told it doesn't have anything to do with that, because as much as I drink and smoke then, it was casual drinking. Maybe they offer you a bottle of drink and all that but not like I drink 15 bottles a day. I have a friend who has gone through this and he never drank or smoked.

"The whole process of the treatment from pre-process, transplanting process and post-transplanting will cost about $100, 000. In two years I have spent up to N5million which I have been trying to maintain myself. That is why it has been kept secret."

"God willing, I have like eight to ten weeks more to get the transplant done. It's strange, I still walk around a little. I can't eat much though. I trust God and Nigerians for their financial support"

The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) says it has begun a fund-raising initiative to support a music artiste and producer, Mr Okungbowa Jezreel, who urgently needs a kidney transplant.

This is contained in a statement signed by the society’s Head of Communication, Media and Strategy, Mr Chibueze Okereke, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, a special support fund had been made by the society to achieve this.

Also according to the statement, the society has also begun the activation of its communication platforms to reach members and the public to support the initiative.

The statement quoted Mr Tony Okoroji, the chairman of the society, as saying that many artistes needed assistance hence the need to show support and care.

"We must support Jezreel not just because of his incredible talent and contribution to the development of modern Nigerian music but also because he would do same for anyone in need,” he said.

Okoroji called for the support of the public, musicians and institutions across Nigeria.

The statement also quoted Mrs Azeezat Allen, a member of the society’s board, as saying that the development showed the importance of having a music foundation to cater for less privileged or indigent musicians.

Allen noted that the funds the society was collecting were for payment of royalties hence the need to have a special fund for such exigencies.

"The foundation has just been set up; it is yet to be really funded but there is a consensus that we must support Jezreel which is why we have set up a special account and every contribution will be published on the COSON website," she said.

How I Swindled American Women Of $48,000 – Imo State University Student

A 22-year-old Microbiology undergraduate confessed to defrauding white women of a total of $48,000. He said his victims, resident in the United States of America, were 'swept off their feet' by his profile on a dating site where he .

The suspects are Chibuzor Akobundu (Devon Miles, Martin Williams and Sani Bala Ismaila1st left), and other alleged accomplices.

He spoke with journalists yesterday, while being paraded alongside two staff of a second generation bank, who allegedly facilitated the withdrawal of money via Western Union Money Transfer.
The suspect adopted Devon Miles as his name and pasted a photograph of an unknown American citizen as his profile on the dating site.

Victims
He confessed to have swindled five American single women within the ages of 40 and 50, in search for husbands.
He gave the name of his first victim as Antoinette. He promised to marry her and was able to dupe her of $16,000 before she suspected he was a fraudster.
His next victim was one Jettie Simpson, who reportedly sent $5,000 to him via Western Union.
Others also duped by Akobundu were Shelly Bashir, $100; Billie Klock, $13,000, in a relationship that reportedly lasted for five months, and Andrea Desena, $8,000.

‘How I operate’
Akobundu said: “I started browsing the dating site three years ago, posing as a US citizen residing in Nigeria.
“At that time, it was a common game around my area in Ikeja. Along the line I met these ladies who were looking for husbands.
“They fell in love with me because of my profile, where I stated that I was a 49-year-old divorcee in search of a wife. I claimed to be an engineer.
“I would tell them I was stranded in Nigeria and needed some money to travel back to US and they would send the money via Western Union.
“At other times, I would tell them that my daughter was sick and that I needed money to offset her hospital bill and they would fall for the trick. I have never used charm to hypnotise any of them.
“My parents were never aware of what I was into because anytime I got a reasonable amount, I would travel to South Africa and squander the money.
“My regret is that I never used the money for anything tangible, to avoid suspicion. My mum is a teacher, while my father is a businessman and have been responsible for the payment of my school fees.”

Victim's Story
Explaining how he was arrested, spokesperson for the Unit, Ngozi Insitume-Agu, said: “The arrest followed a petition via the Unit’s website from one Amelia Brosick, a US citizen, dated April 16, 2013, where she alleged that one Devon Miles, suspected to be a Nigerian, defrauded her to the tune of $16,439 using different tactics.
“She added that she met the suspect on a dating site in June 2012, and the suspect, under the guise of dating her for the purpose of marriage, obtained the alleged sum fraudulently through Western Union.
“Armed with the petition, Western Union was contacted and they sent a detailed spread sheet showing all the transfers in the name of the suspect.
“Following the information, the duo of Nnamdi Nwakwue Dike and Olawale Oguniran attached to Western Union in Skye Bank, Owerri and Allen Avenue, Ikeja, branches, respectively, were arrested.
“Their revealing statements led to the arrest of the serial internet fraudster, Chibuzor Akobundun also known as Devon Miles, Martin Williams and Sani Bala Ismaila. He adopted Devon as the internet name, but opened the account in the name of Martin Williams.

Accomplices confess
“He confessed that he provided the bank staff with the photocopy of his identity card so that they could withdraw the monies, while he gave them some percentage.
“The bank staff also confessed that they used Uche’s particulars to withdraw money from other persons’ accounts without his knowledge.”
However, Dike of the Owerri branch denied knowledge of what Akobundun was into. He maintained that he was only doing his job as a front-line teller staff of the bank, adding that he had never at any time paid Akobundu above the stipulated amount.
He said: “Anytime he came to collect the money, he would answer the question given  correctly, including the secret code.
“Mine is to ascertain whether the details corresponded with what was in the system at the end of which I would hand his money over to him.”
Asked if he received any gratification from Akobundu, he said he was given tips of N1,000 or N2,000 at times, just like some other bank customers do.
