1911 - Italy declared war on Turkey over control of Tripoli.
1918 - Bulgaria pulls out of World War I.
1949 - The Berlin Airlift is officially halted after 277,264 flights.
1960 - Fifteen African nations are admitted to the United Nations.
2009 - Earthquakes in Sumatra kill more than 1,115 people.
1908 - Henry Ford introduced the first mass-produced automobile on the market
             —the Model T car to the market. Each car cost 825.
1936 - General Francisco Franco became head of the insurgent Spanish government.
1954 - British colony of Nigeria became a federation
1971 - Walt Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida.
1960 - Nigeria gained independence from Britain (National Day)
1963 - Nigeria became a republic within Commonwealth
1979 - Nigeria adopts constitution. Alhaji Shagari became the president
1982 - Haruna Babangida Nigerian footballer was born
