Today In History

 

On September 18 many years ago, the following events took place;
 

2010    Mahmud Waziri, a Nigerian businessman and politician, died while in Saudi Arabia. He was chairman of the All Peoples Party in 1999 and represented the Old Gongola State in the Senate.

1981    France abolished capital punishment

1934    The Soviet Unioon was admitted to the League of Nations

1927    The American CBS broadcasting organisation was created

1851    Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Act, which required the return of escaped slaves to their owners.

1850    The first edition of The New York Daily Times, which later became The New York Times, was published.
