There was tension in Enugu yesterday following the brutal murder of a cleric, Rev. Victor Nnaduagwu.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the day.
Until his demise, the pastor resided at No 1 Ilukwe Street, Asata in Ogui Layout.
It was gathered that some residents of the street discovered the
lifeless body of the pastor when they went to fetch water from the
stream.
A source, who was present while sympathisers were pulling the victim
out from the stream, told our correspondent that the deceased had
bruises all over his body.
She said:
“Those who went inside the stream while he was being pulled out said he had bruises in parts of his body. They said it looked as if his killers used stone or nail to hit his face.”
The source expressed dismay over the murder of the pastor, saying
until his demise, he was securing the entrance of Ilukwe Street with his
dogs.
According to her, relatives of the deceased travelled when the incident took place.
Our correspondent, who visited Ilukwe Street yesterday, discovered
that the residents had fled the area to avoid mass arrest by the police.
Meanwhile, the state Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, has confirmed the incident.
Amaraizu said in a statement that
“the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing of Rev. Victor Nnaduagwu of no 1 Ilukwe Street, Asata Ogui in Enugu State on 18/4/13”.
