There was chaos last night as suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, attacked Ringim town, in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.
It was gathered that the militants stormed the area at dusk and reportedly made their way to the personal residence of the
former Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, the Divisional Police
headquarters and other places.
Sources say the attackers used improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades and other weapons.
“The
explosions started after Isha prayers when heavy explosions were heard from the
residence of the former IG while sporadic exchange of gun fire ensued
immediately”, an eyewitness said, as residents scampered for safety.
Another
eyewitness added that the explosions and shootings were directed towards the
ex-IG’s residence as well as a police outpost near the house.
The area is presently under siege as federal troops quickly arrived
at the scene to ward off the gunmen.
