Word For Today: From Death To Life

From Death To Life · Wednesday, November 20th ·

Pastor Chris

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life (John 5:24 NIV).
Pastor Chris
Great news! This means if you’re born again, you’ve already crossed over from death to life. You’re no longer in the fiefdom of death where Satan, sin, sickness, disease, poverty, disadvantage, and failure hold men in bondage; rather, you’ve crossed over into the realm of life
Some Christians, however, still find themselves buffeted by the challenges of life. Their problem, for the most part, is their ignorance of God’s Word. God said, "My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge…" (Hosea 4:6). The quality of life you live here on earth depends on the knowledge of God you have and live by. The Apostle John recognized this when he said, "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren…" (1 John 3:14).
The word "know" in this verse is from the Greek "aido," which means, "to be aware." Have you come to the awareness that you’ve crossed over from death to life, therefore, nothing in you should produce death? Has it dawned on you that you’re not supposed to be sick, broke or snowed-under by the pressures and adversities of life?
The Spirit of God, speaking through the Apostle John said, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know (aido) that ye have eternal life…" (1 John 5:13). You need to become aware of these realities! Take possession of the knowledge that you’ve been called into the transcendent life: the supernatural life of dominion, where you reign by grace through righteousness.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you for bringing me out of spiritual death into the arena of life. I have eternal life now; therefore, nothing in me produces death. I live in absolute victory and mastery over Satan, the world and its systems because the greater One lives in me. Halleluiah.

Word For Today: The Word Gives Light

The Word Gives Light · Tuesday, November 19th ·

Pastor Chris

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple (Psalm 119:130).
Pastor Chris
Some people may not know this, but every human being has two sets of eyes. The first is our physical eyes with which we see and appreciate the world around us. The other set is the spiritual eyes, which, incidentally, most never use, or don’t know how to use; they’ve never seen with the spiritual eyes. Such people only see things from the natural point of view.
Only the Word of God can open your spiritual eyes. I remember the testimony of a man who was healed in one of our meetings. For two years, he couldn’t recognize anyone, not even his wife or siblings. While at the meeting, however, he was fully restored to normalcy. Even though we didn’t physically lay hands on him, he experienced a divine touch because he was in the presence of God, where the Word was being taught. Hence, his mind was illumined to see and comprehend rightly again—that’s the power of God’s Word!
Our opening verse says, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." Interestingly, the Greek Septuagint uses the word "photizo," which means to illuminate or flood with light. Therefore, the verse should actually read, "The entrance of thy words floods with light…." As you allow God’s Word into your heart through diligent study and constant meditation, your heart is flooded with light. It’s akin to the Spirit’s prayer through the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 1:17-18 which says "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened…." He prays that the eyes of your spirit will be flooded with light.
Even now, as you’re studying God’s Word in this devotional, something is happening in your spirit. Your spiritual eyes are being flooded with light; they’re being enlightened to see and apprehend the realities of our heavenly Kingdom.
Confession
I testify that there’s light in my life and in all that concerns me, because I’m yielded to the ministry of the Word. I refuse to fret today or in the future because the light of the Gospel shines in my heart, showing me the path of victory and success! There’s no darkness whatsoever in my life; my way is bright and my future secure. Halleluiah!

Word For Today: Insight Into Realities

Insight Into Realities · Thursday, November 14th ·

Pastor Chris

Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do (Hebrews 4:13).
Pastor Chris
The Word is the wisdom of God, and when you’re born again, this wisdom is granted you; it’s deposited in your spirit. The wisdom of God gives you insight into reality; into hidden mysteries and secrets such that nothing eludes you!
Wisdom—the wisdom of God—makes you see into the "real truth" of things. It enables you to see with the eyes and the mind of God, thereby understanding things from God’s perspective. You’re able to understand concepts and see relationships between them! 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 says, "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."
The princes of this world, the great men and intelligentsia of renown, had no revelation knowledge of the wisdom of God. If they did, they would have recognized the Man of Galilee—our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ—when He walked the earth. The Bible says, "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not" (John 1:10). The princes of this world didn’t know Him because they lacked insight into reality.
When you receive Christ into your heart, Christ becomes your wisdom. The Bible says, in Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3); this includes the knowledge and understanding of all learning and science; you have all of these inside you. Meditate on this thought; it’ll make you a master of all things.
Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for granting me wisdom in my spirit, thus making me a master in life. Christ is my wisdom, and I have insight into reality: all things are made manifest to me by the true light of God’s Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ex-ASUU President was Murdered, says Bamidele Aturu

A statement to the press issued today by lawyer and activist, Bamidele Aturu, insists the former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Festus Iyayi was “murdered”.

See full text of statement below:

Comrade Festus Iyayi was gruesomely murdered-he did not die-by a yet to be identified assassin in the employ of the Government of Kogi State.  This is the only reasonable conclusion to be drawn from the facts that are now available in the public domain. The story is that while traveling along Lokoja-Abuja road in the company of his ASUU comrades on their way to Kano to discuss the way forward in respect of the ongoing strike, an escort car in the convoy of the Governor of Kogi State, Mr Idris Wada, rammed into the ASUU bus killing our beloved comrade and wounding, hopefully not fatally, some other lecturers.

It is difficult to accept the wasting of one of Africa’s most cerebral and committed scholars by a reckless driver who probably assumed that because he was ‘privileged’ to be in a Governor’s convoy he was above traffic regulations and other users of the road, including even his intellectual superiors. The murder of Comrade Iyayi is no doubt a product of the empty pomposity that pervades the corridors of power in Nigeria, from the Governors to their cooks. This pomposity is seen in a culture of impunity and recklessness that gives them the sense that they own our lives, and all that belongs to this country. This is the only way one can understand why they expect all other road users to disappear from the road whenever they ply the roads.

The madness of reckless killings on our roads by those who occupy government houses must stop. The only way to end it is to insist, as some of our comrades are suggesting, that the murderer in Kogi Government house or its boy’s quarters must be produced and prosecuted for manslaughter. It is a shame that it appears that the Governor of that State lacks the capacity to prevent his drivers from reckless and senseless driving, otherwise his convoy should not have been involved in another accident so soon after the tragic accident that claimed the life of his ADC just in December 2012. It may well be that his drivers expect that the only way they can please a former pilot, that he is, is to literally fly on the road. Whatever the case may be, the Governor is vicariously liable for the murder of one of the heroes of the Nigerian struggle against impunity. He too will be made to pay one-way or the other. Some of us will be willing to pursue this matter to a logical conclusion.

Our continent, nay the world, has lost one of the most passionate believers in social justice and equity. He was one of the most honest and dependable ally. We have lost a dogged advocate of decency and consummate teacher. It is indeed an irony that a man who spent his entire life campaigning against impunity should be murdered so recklessly.

In related news, The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that the National Executive Council meeting of the Union has been suspended indefinitely.

This is due to the loss of life in the person of the former ASUU President, Festus Iyayi.

The NEC meeting was expected to hold today and the strike was expected to be called off. Iyayi died on his way to Kano to attend the NEC meeting, when a car in the convoy of the Kogi State governor struck his vehicle.

Word For Today: Maintaining Your Victory

Maintaining Your Victory · Friday, November 8th ·

Pastor Chris

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses (1 Timothy 6:12).
Pastor Chris
Many are yet to acknowledge and understand the kind of warfare we’re engaged in as Christians. They say, "O, Jesus has done it all for me; He fought all my battles for me." Yes, He already accomplished all things for you, but the Word says you should "fight the good fight of faith."
The fight of faith isn’t a fight with the devil who has already been defeated; rather, it means maintaining your victory in Christ by standing your ground on God’s Word. It means living in the reality of what the Word says about you: laying hold of your rights, privileges and inheritance in Christ, and refusing to let go, irrespective of fierce opposition.
The Apostle Paul emphasized this when he said in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." Notice it says "the weapons of our warfare"; acknowledging that there’s indeed a warfare, and we’re involved in it!
Secondly, it describes these weapons, stating that they are mighty through the Word and the Holy Spirit, in the pulling down of "strongholds." Strongholds are ideas, thoughts, principles and theories of this world that contradict the Word. Such ideas and theories create negative mind-sets in people, and hold them in bondage. However, with the Word of God, and through the Holy Spirit, we’re able to pull down or dismantle such strongholds.
Next, it says "casting down imaginations." Sometimes people have imaginations that are against the Word of God; they’re haunted by terrible imaginations of fear, defeat, and failure. With the Word of God, we’re able to tear down and demolish such evil imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God! Stand your ground on the Word always.
Confession
My faith is producing undeniable results; I prevail over every challenging situation because the greater One lives in me, and I’m strong in Him, and in the power of His might.

Pictured: Chinese Man Sues Wife For Being Ugly, Wins Case

google image

This is really funny.
So being ugly has now become a crime? Na wa oh...

Read On

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
But for one man from northern China, this was not the case.

Jian Feng divorced and sued his wife earlier this year for being ugly. That’s not a joke.

Neither is this: That man recently won the lawsuit.

He said his issues with his wife’s looks only began after the couple’s daughter was born. Feng was appalled by the child’s appearance, calling her “incredibly ugly” and saying she resembled neither one of her parents.

Before & After
With that being the case, Feng initially accused his wife of cheating. It was at that point that his wife confessed to spending $100,000 on intense plastic surgeries to drastically change her appearance before she met Feng.

She never told Feng about those surgeries.

When Feng found out about the procedures, he filed the lawsuit. He said the woman convinced him to marry her under false pretenses.

A judge agreed, awarding Feng $120,000.

Word For Today: Sufficient In His Sufficiency

Sufficient In His Sufficiency · Thursday, November 7th ·

Pastor Chris

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God (2 Corinthians 3:5).
Pastor Chris
When the scripture says "our sufficiency is of God," it means the ability with which we function is God’s ability. His ability is at work in us. We’re strengthened with the Strength of God. His divine energy is at work in you. You’re therefore up to any task. The Greek word is "hikanotes," which means to have competence or ability, the quality of being adequately fortified and enabled physically, intellectually, mentally, and spiritually for any task!
The Apostle Paul made a striking remark to this effect when he said, "Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily" (Colossians 1:29). No wonder he lived such an inspiring and extraordinary life as an Apostle of Jesus Christ. He acknowledged and took advantage of the power of God that was at work in him mightily. In Philippians 4:13, he said, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." By that, he wasn’t saying, "God is able; so He’s going to help me do all things," no! He was referring to an inherent ability in him! He understood that the glorious anointing of the Holy Spirit was at work in him mightily.
You’re sufficient in God’s sufficiency. This means that your abilities are unlimited; nothing is impossible unto you. Nothing can put you down or wear you out. Isaiah 40:31 says, "…they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." He renews your strength day by day; meaning that your strength is continuously exchanged for His strength. What a life we have in Him; a life of the supernatural and infinite possibilities. Halleluiah.
Confession
Dear Father, I thank you for being my strength and my glory; I’m stirred and ready for anything, and competent to excellently accomplish any task, through your Spirit that infuses inner strength into me! I’m sufficient in your sufficiency! Glory!

Word For Today: Get Excited About The Lord!

Get Excited About The Lord! · Wednesday, November 6th ·

Pastor Anita

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her (Luke 10:41-42).
Pastor Anita
The Bible tells us in Luke 10, how on a certain day Jesus visited Mary and Martha in their home. While Mary, with great excitement, sat at the feet of the Master to hear His words, Martha, the elder sister, hurried to the kitchen to fix something for Jesus to eat. Upset that her younger sister didn’t come to help her, Martha complained to the Master and said, "…Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand" (Luke 10:40 MSG).
Mincing no words, Jesus reprimanded Martha and commended Mary for choosing the more excellent path. Mary delighted herself in the Lord and His words, and this was pleasing to the Master. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." How do you delight yourself in the Lord? It’s by getting excited about Him! Getting excited about His Word, and seizing every opportunity to learn from Him and have fellowship with Him!
Those who are often excited about the Lord this way always have supernatural things happening in their lives; they always have testimonies of victories, successes, and promotions. Note the construction of the verse we just read again. It says, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee…." In other words, without praying, the good things you desire will automatically be made available to you because you’ve delighted yourself in the Lord. You’ll never have to ask for anything for yourself. He’ll grant it before you ask Him. Isn’t this wonderful? Therefore, be excited and exuberant always in your service to Him, and fellowship with Him.
Prayer
Blessed heavenly Father, I’m so grateful to know that you delight in me, and made me for your pleasure. I give pleasure to you today by walking in your perfect will, guided by your wisdom. Thank you for giving me all things richly to enjoy, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
